White Plains, NY -

The WRWBL is mourning the loss of New Rochelle Dirtbag catcher Tyler Rush, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident Thursday night in Hawthorne, NY. Rush, 24, was a long time veteran of the league, playing for the Westchester Cubs before spending the last two summers as a core member of the recently formed New Rochelle Dirtbags.

Tyler Rush

The league has lost a very special person in Tyler. He was well known as a loyal friend who always kept things lighthearted and in perspective through his infectious sense of humor. He was someone others looked up to. He played hard, loved the game and was a great teammate as well as a respected opponent.

Tyler was a committed member of the Dirtbags and was proud to play against the strong competition in the WRWBL. A natural leader, he would work with the younger pitchers and make the newcomers feel welcome with an occasional joke or two. He also led his club by example as he would continue to lift the team with his strong left handed bat and his solid presence behind the plate. Tyler portrayed the definition of strength in so many ways. He was a true warrior on the field and a genuine friend to all.

Tyler graduated from Stepinac High School in 2005 before going on to play collegiately for Rockland Community College. He spent a lot of his time helping others while working for the Elmsford Water Department and volunteering as a Lieutenant for the Elmsford Fire Department.

Our thoughts are with Tyler's family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
