Pleasantville Red Sox Franchise to Cease Operation After 19 Years
Updated:  12/01/2011 at 1:24 PM
Pleasantville, NY -- The Westchester/Rockland Wood Bat League announced today that the management of the Pleasantville Red Sox has decided to cease operation and will fold the team effective immediately. The decision ends a nearly 20 year run by the franchise that included 18 playoff appearances and back-to-back WRWBL championships in 1999 and 2000.

"We are saddened to see an organization that was a bedrock of the league's success no longer competing," said the league's board of trustees.  "However, the 20 years of sustained success is unmatched in WRWBL history and we're very grateful for the efforts of all the Red Sox managers including Scott Perlman, Pete Annunziata, Peter McGowan, Matt Meyers and James Cisco, as well as the many terrific players who competed for the Sox each season."

In addition to team success the Red Sox have seven different players inducted into the league's Hall of Fame including Perlman, Jamie Giaquinto, Bob Stowers, Lou Osso and Brendan O'Rourke as well as John and Patrick Mauro.  The team also had a long time core of players worth mention including Tim Riggs, Marc Chakhar, Darren Gurney, Jesse Watters, Joel Perez, Scott Karl, Jim Benge, Joe Damico and others who helped establish a culture of winning with the Sox.
